Welcome from our Director

Cathy H. Wu, Ph.D.

I am very excited to welcome you to the Center for Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (CBCB).

My name is Cathy Wu. I am the Director of the Center for Bioinformatics and Computational Biology at University of Delaware, the academic home for CBCB. I am a professor in the Computer Sciences department and also a professor in the Biology department. I also serve as the Graduate Director for our Certificate, Master’s and PhD programs in Bioinformatics.

I would like to represent all of our faculty and staff to welcome you to our program – to start this new chapter in your professional endeavors and your career path.

Whatever the background you are coming from, whether life sciences or computational/ mathematical sciences, our program will enable you to gain core competency for job opportunities in the very rapidly growing field of bioinformatics. Indeed, the bioinformatics market is projected to reach $12 billion by year 2020. The opportunities exist in industries ranging from agriculture, pharmaceuticals and health care to data analytics and software industry.

The core courses offered in each or our Certificate, Master’s, and PhD programs are taught by our professors and instructors who are renowned scientists and practitioners in the field. You will learn how to apply new knowledges and skill sets throughout your plan of study to solve real-world problems.

As you can see, I am truly excited that you are sharing with us your dreams and aspirations by committing to our Bioinformatics graduate program. Our faculty and staff are here to support you to fulfill your goals. So please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

I wish you a great success in completing our program and in advancing your career with the tremendous opportunities awaiting in the field of bioinformatics!

Best of luck and again, welcome to our program!! Thank you.
