Salma Al Saai, a doctoral student, who is also pursuing a graduate certificate in bioinformatics, has won a highly competitive summer scholarship from the Fight for Sight organization. Al Saai works in Dr. Salil Lachke’s lab, conducting genetic research studying a mutation that can lead to the development of congenital cataracts — defined as those that occur at birth or before a baby’s first birthday.
