I am very excited to welcome you to the Center for Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (CBCB).
My name is Cathy Wu. I am the Director of the Center for Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, as well as the director for the Data Science Institute, at University of Delaware. I am a professor in the Computer Sciences and Biology departments. I also serve as the Graduate Director for our Certificate, Master’s and PhD programs in Bioinformatics Data Science and Computational Biology.
I would like to represent all of our faculty and staff to welcome you to our program – to start this new chapter in your professional endeavors and your career path.
Whatever background you are coming from, be it life sciences or computational sciences, our program will enable you to gain core competency for job opportunities in the very rapidly growing field of bioinformatics data science. The bioinformatics market is projected to reach $21 billion by 2026, and the World Economic Forum estimates that 85 percent of surveyed companies are likely to adopt big data analytics. Career opportunities exist from agriculture, pharmaceuticals and health care to data analytics and software industry.
The core courses offered in each or our Certificate, Master’s, and PhD programs are taught by our professors and instructors who are renowned scientists and practitioners in the field. You will learn how to apply new knowledge and skill sets throughout your plan of study to solve real-world problems.
